Piezoelectric Sensors

Piezo traffic sensors are both based on a coaxial sensor element with a central 16-gauge flat braided wire core that is covered with the piezoelectric polymer. This is then compressed within a brass outer jacket. The sensor can either be installed directly in the road or configured by AMP into an epoxy-filled aluminium channel that is then installed into the road.

Fiber-optic Sensors

When a load is applied to the traffic sensor, it experiences a decrease of optical transmittance. An opto-electronic interface detects these changes and transforms them into signals for traffic data processing. Sensitivity can be varied from a few grams up to many tons.
